Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about cash-pay physical therapy at Restore Thrive

Do you take insurance?

To provide the highest quality of care, Restore Thrive is a direct-access physical therapy practice that values transparency and fair pricing. Every session is a full hour, one-on-one, with the same provider who knows your goals and your story.

Without insurance restrictions, we can focus on what you need, not what's covered.

We accept all major credit cards, HSA, HRA, and FSA accounts. Upon request, we'll provide a superbill you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.

Many clients find that paying directly is often more affordable — especially before meeting a deductible — and leads to better outcomes.

What Can I Expect At My First Appointment?

Welcome! We love working with clients who are new to physical therapy and athletic training.

If you're here for physical therapy, we'll build a complete program that addresses your pain and supports your overall healing, including lifestyle strategies, movement coaching, and a personalized home exercise plan.

If you're here for athletic training, your provider will design a tailored training plan that builds strength, resilience, and durability. You'll receive your provider's direct contact information so you can reach out between sessions.

Whether your focus is pain relief, performance, or long-term health, your care plan is designed to help you feel better, move better, and achieve lasting results.

I have never had physical therapy or athletic training. What should I expect?

Your first appointment is all about you. We'll take time to review your full movement and orthopedic history, your current symptoms and limitations, and your short- and long-term goals.

Your provider will perform a detailed physical therapy or movement evaluation to find the root cause of what's holding you back. Together, we'll create a customized care plan that reflects your goals and values while fitting your schedule and lifestyle.

By the end of your first session, you'll know exactly what's limiting you and how we'll work together to restore your health, improve your performance, and help you reach your goals.

How is performance training at Restore Thrive different from working with a trainer at my gym?

Performance training at Restore Thrive is built around your goals, not a one-size-fits-all workout. Many of our clients come to us after physical therapy to safely return to the gym, their sport, or everyday activities without setbacks.

If you're new to exercise, we'll create a clear structured plan so you know exactly what to do to reach your goals with confidence. We troubleshoot exercise programming, movement patterns, and workout design so you can get the most out of your training and avoid injury.

For athletes, we specialize in preparing for competition and fine-tuning performance qualities like speed, strength, and explosive power.

Do I need a referral from my physician before my first appointment?

No referral needed. In Kansas, physical therapy is direct access, which means you can schedule your first appointment at Restore Thrive without seeing your physician first. We're happy to communicate with your physician or other healthcare providers as part of your care team.

If we determine you need imaging, a physician evaluation, or a referral to an orthopedic specialist, we'll guide you in the right direction. Direct access makes it faster and easier to start your recovery, reduce pain, and get back to doing the things you love.

How much does it cost?

Your initial 60-minute assessment at Restore Thrive is $225. To make care more affordable, we offer significant discounts on follow-up visits when you purchase a treatment package.

At the end of your first appointment, your provider will recommend the best plan of care for your goals and review the total cost with you upfront.

No hidden fees. No surprise bills. Ever. We believe in complete pricing transparency so you always know exactly what to expect.

What conditions do you treat?

Restore Thrive treats a wide range of orthopedic and musculoskeletal conditions including ACL injuries and post-surgical rehab, shoulder injuries and rotator cuff problems, low back and neck pain, runner's knee and patellofemoral pain, CrossFit and weightlifting injuries, post-concussion syndrome, hip and knee pain, and chronic spine conditions.

If you're unsure whether your condition is a good fit, schedule a free phone consultation and we'll let you know how we can help.

How is cash-pay physical therapy different from insurance-based PT?

With insurance-based PT, a company that has never met you decides how many visits you get, how long each session is, and what treatment you receive.

At Restore Thrive, none of that applies. You get a full 60-minute session every time, with the same provider who knows your history and goals. There are no surprise bills, no prior authorizations, and no arbitrary visit limits.

Many patients actually spend less out of pocket with cash-pay PT — especially those who haven't met their deductible — and get better outcomes because the care isn't restricted.

How long will my treatment take?

Every patient is different, so there's no one-size-fits-all answer.

At your first appointment, your provider will perform a thorough evaluation and recommend a care plan based on your specific condition, goals, and lifestyle. Some patients see significant improvement in 4-6 sessions.

Others with more complex or chronic conditions benefit from longer programs.

What we can promise is that every session moves you forward — we don't pad your plan of care with unnecessary visits.

Can I come to Restore Thrive for athletic training if I haven't had physical therapy?

Absolutely. Athletic Training Plus is not limited to post-rehab patients.

If you're an athlete or active adult who wants to improve performance, build strength, prevent injury, or return to sport after time off, Dennis Dolan and our athletic training team can build a program around your goals.

You don't need to have been injured first — performance training is for anyone who wants to move and perform at a higher level.

Do you offer remote or online coaching?

Yes. Restore Thrive offers remote coaching for patients and athletes who prefer to work from home or who are outside the Kansas City area.

Remote sessions are conducted via video and include personalized programming, movement assessment, and ongoing support between sessions.

It's the same one-on-one, individualized approach as in-person care — just delivered virtually.
